Regular Meetings

Here are the activities at our meetings that we have planned out for the coming year:

  • September 13th, 2022 – First Meeting at the PACC-Plant Swap
  • October 11th, 2022“Yes, Daffodils do make seeds”, Speaker:  Ann Howell Wood, author of biography on Dr. William Bender – Daffodil hybridizer
    Arrangement: Demonstration of arrangements using vegetables for members to bring to the November meeting
    Horticulture:
    Class 1 – Camellia Sasanqua – bloom and foliage
    Class 2 – Rose (no Knock Out) – bloom and foliage
    Class 3 – Dahlia – bloom and at least one set of leaves
    Class 4 – Photograph taken by member 4”x6” framed, choice of: Camellia sasanqua bloom and foliage or dahlia at least one set of leaves
  • November 8th, 2022 – “Thanksgiving Tablescapes”, Speaker:  Chrysler Flower Guild
    Arrangement: Design using vegetables, design demonstrated at the October meeting
    Demonstration: Biedermeier arrangement for members to bring to the January meeting
  • December 14th, 2022 – Holiday Party at Maureen Harvey’s home – members only
  • January 10th, 2023 – Birds and Bees Lecture from Jason Hayes – Agronomist, Beekeeper and Bird Enthusiast.
    Arrangement: Design in the Biedermeier demonstrated for members at the November meeting
    Demonstration: Tussie Mussie /Nosegay for members to bring to the February meeting
  • February 14th, 2023 – “The Living Wall”, Speaker: Norfolk Botanical Garden
    Arrangement: Tussie Mussie /Nosegay demonstrated for members at the January meeting
    Demonstration: Monotone Design for members to bring to the March meeting
    Horticulture:
    Class 1 – Forced blooming branch
    Class 2 – Holly fern
    Class 3 – Varieigated shrub foliage
    Class 4 – Photograph taken by member 4”x6” framed, choice of: forced blooming branch, holly fern, variegated shrub foliage
  • March 14th, 2023 – “Kokedama”, Japanese art of enclosing a plant’s root mass with moss, Speaker: VA Tech Extension Office
    Arrangement: Monotone Design demonstrated at the February meeting.
    Horticulture:
    Class 1 – Camellia japonica – bloom and foliage
    Class 2 – Helleborus – bloom and foliage
    Class 3 – Daffodil
    Class 4 – Photograph taken by member 4”x6” framed, choice of: camellia japonica, helleborus, daffodil
  • April 11th, 2023 – Tour and Presentation at the Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center at 1444 Diamond Springs Rd, Speaker: Laurie Fox, Ph.D. Horticulture Associate, Virginia Tech School of Plant & Environmental Sciences
  • May 9th, 2023“Wildlife of Costa Rica” Speaker: Janet Ogren, photographer
  • June 2nd, 2023 – Spring Cocktail Party at the home of Marianne Dickerson
