Historic Garden Week 2020 is Cancelled

A Message from Garden Club of Virginia:
Dear Historic Garden Week Ticket Buyer,

Thank you for supporting the mission of the Garden Club of Virginia through your purchase of a ticket(s) to Historic Garden Week, the nation’s only statewide house and garden tour.

Discussions concerning the risk of COVID-19 coronavirus to our public health and the impact on our daily lives continue. Because of this extraordinary situation, the Garden Club of Virginia has made the difficult decision to cancel Historic Garden Week 2020.

It is clear that we must act responsibly and proactively to protect the well-being of our members, staff, volunteers, and homeowners as well as the 26,000 visitors who travel from all over the world to enjoy the gardens and hospitality of Virginia during this unique springtime event.
In its 87 years, Historic Garden Week has been cancelled only once before. At that time, we were in the middle of World War II. Now, we face challenges here at home. It is important that we support the advice of experts, adhere to guidelines established by the CDC, and take special care to keep our families and communities safe and healthy.

What to do about your ticket purchase(s) …
Historic Garden Week is a tradition, and our largest public program. Ticket sales fund the restoration and preservation of nearly 50 of Virginia’s historic public gardens and landscapes, as well as a research fellowship program in landscape architecture. Some of our country’s most iconic sites, such as Monticello, Mount Vernon and the State Arboretum, have benefited from Historic Garden Week proceeds. For more information, https://gcvirginia.org/main/historic-restorations .

As you can imagine, it takes months of planning, tremendous staff resources, as well as 3,500 dedicated members and volunteers to produce 29 tours in communities across our state. We thank all who have worked so hard to make this year’s Centennial tour. For a refund of your ticket(s), please contact Terri@VAGardenWeek.org . We will be happy to accommodate you.

Should you wish to convert your ticket into a 100% tax-deductible donation to the Garden Club of Virginia, we will gratefully send you a formal acknowledgment of your gift. Please contact Terri@VAGardenWeek.org if that is your request.

Please direct any additional concerns or questions to Tricia Garner, State Chair, who is available at StateChairman@VAGardenWeek.org.

We appreciate the nearly 150 homeowners who graciously agreed to welcome visitors to their homes and gardens. In addition, we thank all of the sponsors, advertisers, vendors and partners who have been so supportive of our efforts. We know that Historic Garden Week 2021 (April 17-24) will be the best one yet!

Best regards,

Jean Gilpin, President of the Garden Club of Virginia
